Journal Online - Boyet Fajardo’s “taray” scene at Duty Free Mall

Video of incident: YouTube - boyet fajardo iskandal!

Excerpt from Journal Online - Boyet Fajardo’s “taray” scene at Duty Free Mall

Quote:

Over the weekend, I received an angry e-mail regarding an incident which left a lot of people who were at the Duty Free Fiesta Mall in Parañaque last March 13 outraged.

I verified the contents of the e-mail and found out that they were all true.

A designer who supplies clothes to a known mall chain reportedly created a scene, to the shock and horror of shoppers and employees alike, when a cashier asked for his ID after presenting his credit card.

The reason why the cashier politely did this, was because the credit card was unsigned. This is an SOP or standard operating procedure in cases like this, in order to verify ownership of the credit card, so what’s wrong with that?

Suddenly, the designer reportedly got furious and, at the top of his voice, started berating the cashiers and managers of Duty Free.

The designer further shocked bystanders by cussing the people there with words like “leche” and “p…ina,” while angrily expressing surprise why the people there did not recognize him.

He also threatened to call his contacts — all people in “high places” — and demanding that those who crossed him be fired. Whew! Heavvyyyy!

And if you think that was it, here’s more: The designer further demanded that for him to be appeased, the cashier must kneel down before him so he could slap his face.

To appease the designer, the cashier agreed to do so — fortunately, minus the slapping.

A casual employee of Duty Free, the cashier was crying in shame while obliged to the demand of the angry customer and even apologized, perhaps for fear of losing his job.

I can’t imagine how this designer treats his employees, if any, or his helpers, for that matter. He may be moneyed alright, but this certainly does not make him a GOD.

Sa kanyang iniasta, tinalo pa daw ng designer na ito ang kilalang kontrabida sa pelikula na si Joaquin Fajardo. Oh, well…

Quote:

20 years in fashion

On Sept. 1, 1980, he opened his first shop on Banaue street in Quezon City as a bid to join the big names in the made-to-order industry at 17 and a college sophomore (at UST, where he was majoring in Fine Arts).

Boyet Fajardo believed that he had what it takes to make it in fashion alongside the more established names like Ben Farrales.

It was a bold and brave step for him to take. Boyet had no experience in fashion design. His only association with it was the fact that his mother had been a seamstress—and, of course, the years that he’d spent apprenticing for the bigger, more famous designers. Eventually, he mustered enough guts to try and make it on his own.

After several years, however, it became clear to Boyet that his fortunes lay in a different direction. He was making enough money to pay his rent and daily expenses, but not much else. He wanted more.

So in 1988, he packed up the shop, left Manila and flew to Singapore, to work for Tenemac, an export firm that made ready-to-wear clothes for a top retail brand. It took him five years to realize that this was where his calling lay.

Today, Boyet is one of the biggest names in RTW. His Boyet Fajardo line is carried in all Robinsons stores—there are about 20 of them all over Metro Manila and in the provinces—and the Landmark. His clothes are targeted at larger women whom he feels have been neglected in favor of their smaller, more petite counterparts. Since making the big shift from couture clothes to RTW, Boyet has realized just how neglected this sector of the fashion market is.

Thus, he has devoted himself to coming up with clothes for big women. His creations, which are very reasonably priced (prices can go to as low as P399 for blouses, and P799 for a blouse-and-skirt set) lean more toward the classic and elegant look without trying to make the wearer look old. Boyet has brought his 20 years of experience in fashion to bear on the clothes that he makes. Rather than overload his clothes with details, he goes for the simple and classic look.

He has truly come a long way. Now, Boyet Fajardo can truly be called a success. He has become both an artistic and financial success. In fact, he recently had his new office-cum-residence located in Valle Verde, officially blessed. The house, which has a large garden, is doted with Boyet’a favorite antiques and paintings. He also recently bought a house in nearby Acropolis, which will be blessed on Nov. 28, a blessing that will be attended by many of Boyet’s longtime clients and friends.

Update01:

Apparently a petition is currently underway to boycott Boyet Fajardo’s RTW labels -> Please Boycott Boyet Fajardo RTW Labels

Miley Cyrus says sorry for another photo scandal - a picture with her friends slanting their eyes offending the Asian community.

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

After the photos hit the net, The OCA — a group dedicated to advancing the social, political and economic well-being of Asian Pacific Americans — expressed their disappointment with this photo of Miley with boyfriend Justin Gaston and some other friends for using what they have deemed an offensive, stereotypical gesture:

According to a statement sent by OCA to the showbiz blog TMZ:

“The photograph of Miley Cyrus and other individuals slanting their eyes currently circulating the Internet is offensive to the Asian Pacific American community and sets a terrible example for her many young fans. This image falls within a long and unfortunate history of people mocking and denigrating individuals of Asian descent…

…Not only has Miley Cyrus and the other individuals in the photograph encouraged and legitimized the taunting and mocking of people of Asian descent, she has also insulted her many Asian Pacific American fans,” said George Wu, executive director of OCA. “The inclusion of an Asian Pacific American individual in the photo does not make it acceptable.”

“OCA hopes that Miley Cyrus will apologize to her fans and the APA community for this lapse in judgment and takes the opportunity to better understand why the gesture is offensive.”

The 16-year-old teen superstar responded by posting this entry on MileyWorld:

“I can’t believe all of the silly STUFF that has been put out in the press this week! It really makes me sad that people want to tear other people down just for the sake of magazine sells and hits on websites! Unfortunately, it seems like BAD is what sells!

“I’ve also been told there are some people upset about some pictures taken of me with friends making goofy faces! Well, I’m sorry if those people looked at those pics and took them wrong and out of context! In NO way was I making fun of any ethnicity! I was simply making a goofy face. When did that become newsworthy? It seems someone is trying to make something out of nothing to me. If that would of been anyone else, it would of been overlooked! I definitely feel like the press is trying to make me out as the new ‘BAD GIRL’! I feel like now that Britney [Spears] is back on top of her game again, they need someone to pick on! Lucky me! Anyway, I just wanted to let you guys know what is on my heart. You guys know me and have been by my side every step of the way!

“You guys know my heart and know the most important things to me are my friends, family, fans, and GOD! In NO WAY do I want to disappoint any of you! But, when I have made mistakes in the past, I feel like I’ve owned up to them and apologized. Anyway, I really wish everyone would stop focusing on my personal life and get back to focusing on what I love! Music and Acting! Hopefully, I will be touring again this fall! Yayy! =] It will be a nice change to be back out on the road again! xoxo Blessings.. Miley”

Til next time, Francis M.

Friday, March 6th, 2009

As of lunchtime of March 06, 2009, Vic Sotto, host of the lunchtime show “Eat Bulaga”, announced the death of Francis Magalona. He is known to people as Francis M, Kiko, and kuya. He is considered the Mster Rapper of th Philippines. As to this writing, I have not completed the complete detail of such loss of the Philippine Music Industry.

Here is a complete compy of Francis M’s last blog in multiply dated Januay 14, 2009:

“Good evening people. I am getting prepared for my 4th Chemotherapy cycle, and I will be admitted tonight at The Medical City. I will be doing some tests tomorrow, wish me luck. Friday I begin my 4th cycle, which is a Hi-Dose kind, as will be taking 6 grams of CytarabinTM a day every other day for 3 days.

(According to webmd.com, Cytarabine is given intravenously. Sometimes it is given as a shot under the skin or directly into the spinal fluid. It can be given in a low, average, or high dose. Cytarabine is classified as an antimetabolite. It kills cancer cells by interfering with the way they multiply. Cytarabine is used to treat acute myelogenous leukemia [AML] and acute lymphoblastic leukemia. It is sometimes used to treat non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and some types of brain tumors.)

I will be at the 14th floor of the TMC, as usual. I brought a lot reading materials (bible included!) and DVDs to keep me company while I do my treatment. I will be doing my radiation treatment by February and my PBSCT (Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Transplant) will be done by March.

I look forward to the pain as I know my journey is on full speed ahead. I will not be bold to say that without asking a favor from you all. PLEASE PRAY for me as I undergo treatment. Your prayers, as always, have sustained me. And am sure the Lord will listen to all our prayers. To His will I submit myself.

God bless you, my friend.

PS: I will be needing blood donors for blood and platelets. Please go to the lower ground floor of The Medical City and donate blood in my name. For platelets Apheresis you may go have yourself screened at the Phil. Nat’l Red Cross at the Pier in Manila. I am type O positive. Thank you again.”

As we can read, up to his last days with us, he is very optimistic that he would be healed from hi ailment.

I hopw we may spend a moment of silence to pray for his eternal repose.

Nasud Ko: 12 Little Things for our Country

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Music Video Description

Excerpt:

What is “Nasud Ko: 12 Little Things for Our Country”? Nasud Ko (NK) is a Musik album produced by Dilaab Founation Inc. containing 12 original songs based on the book “12 Little Things Every Filipino Can Do To Help Our Country” by Atty. Alexander L. Lacson. It talks about civic virtues, linking love of God and love of country. It is a creative way of preaching without being preachy. Like giving a seminar over time, let’s enjoy good Musik while helping build a better future through nation building. Why Bisrock? Bisrock (Bisaya rock) is a recent cultural phenomenon whose impact is felt in the growing number of local radio stations allocating time slots for such Musik in Cebuano. Most of the listeners of this genre are the youth. Since DILAAB believes that prevention is better than cure, we figured Bisrock is the best medium to use for getting civic virtues into the mainstream. At the moment, if you follow traffic rules, dispose of garbage responsibly or ask for an official receipt, you get a raised eyebrow and get labeled “freak”. Getting the Bisrockers to endorse the 12 little things is starting on the goal towards making loving God and country the norm instead of the exception. In the process, we discovered that these bands- normally stereotyped as ’saba’ and ‘bugoy-bugoy’- are actually idealistic, passionate and very eager to help promote love of country. How are civic virtues related to Christian values? Matthew 22:34-40 tells us to love our neighbor as ourselves. Little acts of good citizenship are acts of loving God and neighbor. Therefore, a good Christian is also a good citizen. Which Bisrock bands and civic virtues are in the album? Aggressive Audio (support your church), Agipo (ask for an official receipt), Assembly Language (do not buy smuggled goods, buy Filipino), The Agadiers (be a good parent to your child), Fervent (follow traffic rules, obey the law), Glass of Dirt (adopt a scholar or a poor child), Indephums (dispose of your garbage responsibly), Kabobo (vote, do your solemn duty), Mantequilla (pay your taxes), Phylum (respect the authorities), and What’s the Frequency (pay your employees well). What do they say about NK? Initial response to the album has been highly encouraging. One Englishman, who has international Musik exposure, said, “We believe that the ‘12 Little Things’ could become the biggest CD to have ever been released in Cebu and the region and that the anthem [Nasud Ko] could spread throughout the Philippines .” Another review states, “Nagamit na gyod ang Bisaya rock alang sa pagduso og mas halawom nga kawsa” (Bisrock is finally used to promote a profound cause). [ Banat News, September 5, 2007] How did the Musik album come about? During the May 2007 national election campaign period, wanting to encourage the youth to do their solemn duty, Fr. Melo Diola and some DILAAB staff went to a local radio station known to have a huge youth following. Aside from asking them to vote wisely, they also mentioned the other Little Things. The idea was floated about having bands compose songs for each of the little things. A few text messages were exchanged, a couple of meetings made, and the rest is, as they say, history.

My Comment:

As a Filipino, this strong struck me.  This is really true.  There are a lot that we can do.  But everything must start from our own little initiative.  From our own ordinary everyday life, we just need to know that in everything we do, everyone around us is affected.  We should be able to see beyond what is seen.  Hope should be taken by heart and not by words.

As what we always say, “Yes, the Filipino can!”

Bisrock anyone?

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

What does this word mean?

From wiki:
BisRock is the music genre propagated by the Cebu rock music industry in the Philippines. The term comes from the Cebuano words Bisaya, referring the Visayan language, and rock, for rock music.
The term was coined by Cebuano writer Januar E. Yap in 2002[1] and was first applied to Missing Filemon’s first album.
Earning wide reception among the young in the Visayas and Mindanao, Bisrock is a recent cultural phenomenon. This is however, highly debatable, as Visayans, primarily Cebuanos, are the only ones actually making a big fuss out of this so-called musical “genre”.

As what wiki also said, it was already present during the 80’s but the genre wasn’t specified yet and was called “Local Ground”. If you can remember Ka Pedro of 99.5 DYRT FM during the early 90’s you would know what I mean.  Currently, 93.1 Smash FM Cebu is broadcasting this genre of music. They help a lot in giving the Bisayan talents room to grow. Even Manila-based bands records their tracks in Cebu with state of the art recording studios like Backyard project and alike.

If you can notice on the main page of our blog, a featured youtube video starts upon opening. That song is one of the Cebu talents and is also considered Bisrock. The song is entitled “Sine-sine” by “Missing Filemon” from the movie “Confessional”.

If you have time to explore and listen to Bisrock songs, you have it HERE.(you need a multimedia player that can listen to online streaming like windows media player, winamp, etc.)

“Kill all the critics. Or let them compose their own songs. Seriously, that’s not even the issue now. What is important is the young’s burgeoning interest to make songs in their own language. That is for me magical. Every now and then, there will be some of them who’ll be dishing out songs with a literary flair. In fact, that’s happening now. Literary value and grammar? Oh, hell, let the critics reread Frank Sinatra or Air Supply.”

Slumdog Millionaire

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

I found this movie interesting.  What drag me to watch this movie is the review in istorya.net that it is a good movie and worth the time to spare.  And it is.

For a simple person like, yeah it is one of the A++ in my short list.  Though it is boring a little in the start, but only on the first part.

Slumdog Millionaire
Here is the plot based on Fox Searchlight Pictures:

The story of Jamal Malik, an 18 year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, who is about to experience the biggest day of his life. With the whole nation watching, he is just one question away from winning a staggering 20 million rupees on India’s “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?” But when the show breaks for the night, police arrest him on suspicion of cheating; how could a street kid know so much? Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal tells the story of his life in the slum where he and his brother grew up, of their adventures together on the road, of vicious encounters with local gangs, and of Latika, the girl he loved and lost. Each chapter of his story reveals the key to the answer to one of the game show’s questions. Each chapter of Jamal’s increasingly layered story reveals where he learned the answers to the show’s seemingly impossible quizzes. But one question remains a mystery: what is this young man with no apparent desire for riches really doing on the game show? When the new day dawns and Jamal returns to answer the final question, the Inspector and sixty million viewers are about to find out. At the heart of its storytelling lies the question of how anyone comes to know the things they know about life and love.

Just recently, the movie Slumdog Millionaire has won the top prize at the Academy Awards, winning eight Oscars including best director and best picture.

If you want to watch it online with a clear HD quality, you can have it HERE.

I do suggest you watch this movie.  It may be impossible, but could be real.  Philippines and India is not that different, from media culture to political culture.

Happy watching!!!
